Fast, reliable hosting for your website...

Saw this on Godaddy's site:

"Fast, reliable hosting for your website"

Yeah right. I'm upgrading my joomla site version right know, and it's killing me. It takes a lot of time just to load the file manager! I can't even make a copy of my site's files to another folder. It often timed out.

My Joomla site got hacked

One of my joomla site was hacked by a T u r k ish hacker. Luckily, the hacker only changed the index page, and of course the site password. The other parts of the site are still there.

I am using free traffic monitoring from statcounter.com, and from the stats (visitor paths) I can see that the hacker is really from Istanbul, Turkey using Turk Telekom IP.

My site is a local Indonesian restaurant site with no significant traffic so it wasn't hard to find the hacker among other visitors. I can also see the last few pages that the hacker visited before my site was defaced. Seems that the hacker is exploiting the password reset feature. Dont know exactly how it was done, but then, I dont think I need to know (not yet anyway). I just need to fix the site first.

People said that it's because I'm using an old version of Joomla, and for security reason I should always update to the newest version.

To fix the site, I replaced the hacker's index page with standard index.php file from joomla instalation package, and the site is up and running again. Then I used the same method as the hacker (LOL!) to reset the site's password again using the password reset feature, so that I can login to the administration panel.

I am now in process of upgrading the site to the newest version of joomla. Hopefully, this version is more secure than the previous one.

Test your patience, try Godaddy's account panel

If you really want to test your patience, try Godaddy's account control panel. It's never been fast, and is becoming way slower right now. I dont know what happened to them, and many people are complaining about this.

I've been hosting my sites at Godaddy for about a year now, and I'm thinking of moving to another host. I'm gonna miss those Godaddy coupon codes though...they give really big discount sometimes.
